Research on the effects of keeping training logs shows that regularly completing a training log can positively influence the beliefs and behaviours of swimmers.
Research conducted into the use of a training log for self-monitoring indicated better attendance and motivation after just one month and resulted in improvements in accountability, punctuality and the ability to self-monitor. A training logbook is therefore recommended to improve in pool training behaviours and assist swimmers with motivation during challenging training blocks.
